Community Event in Dropull to Engage Citizens in Plastic Waste Reduction under the BeMed Project

On 24 February 2026, within the framework of the project “Eco-School and Sustainable Tourism: A Plastic-Free Future for Dropull”, funded by the Beyond Plastic Med (BeMed) Programme, the Municipality of Dropull organised a community event aimed at actively engaging local stakeholders and citizens in plastic waste reduction efforts.
The event focused on mobilising the local community to take concrete action against plastic pollution by promoting sustainable habits, reducing single-use plastics and encouraging environmentally responsible practices in households, schools and tourism businesses.
Representatives of local institutions, tourism operators, educators, civil society organisations and community members participated in an open dialogue on the environmental challenges related to plastic waste in the municipality and discussed practical, locally adapted solutions.
During the meeting, the project’s objectives and planned activities were presented, with particular emphasis on the importance of community participation in achieving long-term environmental impact. Participants were encouraged to adopt simple but effective measures to minimise plastic waste and to act as ambassadors of change within their respective sectors.
An interactive session allowed attendees to exchange ideas, identify priority actions and propose collaborative initiatives to strengthen local efforts in reducing plastic waste. The discussions reinforced the shared responsibility of institutions, businesses and citizens in building a more sustainable and plastic-free future for Dropull.
This community event marks a significant step towards strengthening local ownership of environmental initiatives and fostering collective action for plastic waste reduction.
